Clark, Elizabeth Winifred (Jane), 1902-1976



Lady Elizabeth "Jane" Winifred Martin Clark was born in 1902 and was the first wife of Baron Kenneth Clark. They had one daughter, Colette, and two sons, Alan and Colin. Colin was the godson of Edith Wharton. She died in 1976.

Scope and Contents:

Copy of typescript letter from Beatrix Farrand to Mildred Bliss asks if she might inquire of the Kenneth Clarks what Edith Wharton's Cezanne was sold for by the heir [Elisina Tyler]. The report from Harry T. Thompson on the Dumbarton Oaks tree conditions has arrived and the conclusions are favorable. Beatrix sends her a copy of the report and one to James Bryce. Beatrix has finished an ankle length dress for the party. She will be at Dumbarton Oaks in a week.

Scope and Contents: Three typescript paragraphs probably by Beatrix Farrand to Mildred Bliss about books that were left by Edith Wharton following her death to Lady (Kenneth) Clark's son, Colin on architecture or art. Colin was Edith's godson. Beatrix reports that Lady Clark had received a letter from Elisina Tyler telling her that Edith Wharton has not made a catalogue of books and before her death Edith had presented Elisina with the most valuable book in the collection. "Evidently they do not love...
