In 1867, John Wilkins Carter's inklings of markets for products that supported writing on paper motivated him to create an enterprise for manufacturing and selling inks and related items--the beginning of Carter's Ink Company; On January 7, 1896, Carter, Dinsmore & Co. officially became The Carter's Ink Company; in 1975 sold to Massachusetts company, Dennison Manufacturing)
