Biography

The Woodstock Railroad Company was a company chartered in 1863 to operate a short-line railroad from Woodstock to White River Junction, Vermont, a distance of about 14 miles. Construction began on the Woodstock Railroad in 1867 with operation commencing in 1875. The 163-foot high trestle over Quechee Gorge was once the highest railroad bridge in New England. Stops along the railway included Taftsville, Queechee, Dewey's Mill, and Hartford, Vermont. A financial reorganization in 1890 lead to a change of name to the Woodstock Railway. The railway never attracted much business and ceased operations on April 15, 1933.
