Records in this collection were created by Charles Miller Fisher during his practice as a neurologist in Montreal, Canada, and Boston, Massachusetts. Overview: The papers reflect the professional work of Francine M. Benes, a research neuroscientist who focused her work on the neuropathology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Benes did the bulk of her work at Harvard-affiliated institutions, primarily McLean Hospital and the Harvard Brain Tissue Research Center. Benes focused on the cellular examination of human brain tissue as a method to explore the course and effects of neurodegenerative disease, primarily schizophrenia and bipolar disorder....

Lloyd E. Hawes (1912-1988), A.B., 1933, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; M.D., 1937, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, was Professor and Chair of the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Radiology Department (1975-1980) and a developer of the radiology department for the Harvard Medical School-planned Harvard Community Health Plan (now Harvard Pilgrim Health Care). Papers reflect Hawes’s work as a teacher, administrator, and historian of radiology.

Overview: Marjorie Berman Lees was a neurological researcher whose early work in the laboratory of Jordi Folch-Pi resulted in the discovery of a novel chloroform-methanol soluble protein. In her later career, she focused on the structure and function of myelin and the proteolipid proteins.
