Although there are some papers relating to Filene's store, the focus is on business interests of Kirstein, his philanthropic and community activities, the Associated Merchandising Corporation, the Federated Department Stores, and the Associated Retail Federation.

Much of this material was put in shape and recorded by the company at the time of 150th anniversary in 1949. Bourne Spooner, Caleb Loring, Augustus P. Loring, Francis C. Holmes, Gideon F.
