Abstract: The George Russell Shaw papers document his taxonomic research on the genus pinus. Originally trained an architect at Harvard Shaw continued his studies at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and, in 1873 was a founding partner in the architectural firm Shaw & Hunnewell. Early in the 20th century Shaw became interested in studying pines and based his taxonomic career at the Arnold Arboretum.
