BIOGRAPHY

Amey Willson Hart was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1883 and remained in the same home on Congdon St. until she married late in life. Her married sister, her brother-in-law and two nephews also lived there.

After graduating from Radcliffe in 1906, Hart taught second grade for seventeen years at the Lincoln School in Providence. She retired from this job in 1924 to devote herself full time to being an aunt and to traveling abroad and around the United States.

In her volunteer work, she served on the Home Committee of the Rhode Island Society for the Preservation of Cruelty to Children, and was Treasurer of the Rhode Island Society of Colonial Dames, and Secretary of the League of Women Voters of Providence. She was also a life member of the American Unitarian Association, the Appalachian Mountain Club, The Petersham Historical Society and the Essex Institute of Salem.

Hart married a lawyer, Henry C. Hart in 1942, and thus acquired three adult stepchildren and 12 step-grandchildren.
