BIOGRAPHY
Helen (originally spelled Helyn) Frances Mollica Barolini, writer and translator, was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1925. She attended Wells College and received her Ph.D. in English from Syracuse University. She also attended the University of London, University of Perugia, and Universidad Nacional in Bogota. In 1950 she married the Italian author and correspondent, Antonio Barolini. They had three daughters, Teodolinda, Susannah, and Nicoletta. The family lived in Italy in the late 1960s. Antonio Barolini died in 1971. Barolini currently lives in Ossining, New York. She is the author of a novel, Umbertina (1978), and two volumes of poetry, Umbria (1953), and, with Antonio Barolini, Duet (1966). The Dream Book: an Anthology of Writings by Italian American Women is forthcoming from Schocken Books in 1985. She has published fiction, essays, and reviews in many periodicals.
