The Evans Collection includes a substantial archive of material - drawings, notes, graphic material, photographs, and annotated texts - assembled in the course of his research for the book posthumously published as "The Projective Cast". It also contains his design work, both student and professional, as well as a collection of books with reading notes.

The collection consists of drawings and reproductions on paper stored in drawing folders (Series A), print and manuscript materials on paper stored in file folders and boxes (Series B, D, E, F, G), and photographic prints stored in file folders and boxes (Series C).

Robin Evans, born in 1944, was an architect, teacher, and historian. From 1986 until his death in 1993 he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster, and a Visiting Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design. He also lectured in Cambridge, England, at the Architectural Association, the Bartlett School, the University College London, and in the US at Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, MIT, and Cornell.
Evans studied architecture at the Architectural Association where he gained his Diploma in 1969. He then pursued a PhD at the University of Sussex under the guidance of Joseph Rykwert. His dissertation was ultimately published in 1982 as "The Fabrication of Virtue: English Prison Architecture 1750-1840."
His seminal book "The Projective Cast: Architecture and Its Three Geometries," completed in 1992, was published posthumously by MIT Press.

Arrangement
The collection is organized as follows: Series A contains architectural drawings, reproductions, and assorted illustrations by Evans, covering different phases of his career, from student, to professional, to scholarly work. Series B contains two (2) typescripts for his book "The Projective Cast." Series C contains assorted photographic materials used in the book. Series D contains Evans' student work and publications. Series E contains assorted clippings and notes. Series F contains reading notes organized into twelve (12) folders. Series G contains books collected by Evans.
