Series Note
The Loyalty Review Board of the U.S. Civil Service Commission was established by President Harry S. Truman pursuent to Executive Order 9835, dated March 21, 1947. Henry L. Shattuck was asked in October of 1947 to become a member of the Board, and he accepted. He served as a member of the Board until 1953.
The Loyalty Review Board was an Appeal Board, and it reviewed cases of civilian employees in the Federal Government whose records raised a question of loyalty, and who had already appeared before the F.B.I. and the Loyalty Board of the agency which employed them.
The material in this series consists of correspondence, clippings, opinions on cases under review, lists, reports, minutes of meetings of the Board, government orders, directives, rules and regulations, summons, etc. The order which H.L. Shattuck had imposed on this material was retained, including folder headings.
