Assorted material created and assembled by Frank E. A. Sander, related to his work on mediation and dispute resolution from 1942-2017, including material related to the American Bar Association's Alternative Dispute Resolution section. The collection also includes a large amount of published literature related to dispute resolution, as well as research material, draft papers, classroom material, and two boxes of audiovisual material.

This collection is open to the public, but is housed off-site at the Harvard Depository and requires 2 business-day advance notice for retrieval. Material in this collection related to the Program on Negotiation (P.O.N.) at Harvard is closed until 2038 due to donor-stipulated restrictions.

Biographical / Historical
Frank E. A. Sander was born in 1927. He graduated from Harvard College in 1949 and received his LL.B from Harvard Law School in 1952. He served as law clerk to Chief Judge Calvert Magruder of the U.S. Court of Appeals and Justice Felix Frankfurter of the U.S. Supreme Court. He joined the faculty of Harvard Law School in 1959 as assistant professor. He was appointed professor in 1962; Walter E. Meyer Research Professor, 1978-1979; Bussey Professor of Law, 1981; and Bussey Professor of Law, Emeritus, 2006. He served as Associate Dean, 1987-2000 and also co-founded Harvard's Program on Negotiation, which advanced teaching and scholarship in the field of alternative dispute resolution.

Separated Materials
A framed etching/award for Frank E. A. Sander's participation in the tenth annual Practical Skills Course, 1974, was transferred to the HLSL "Diplomas, honorary degrees, citations and awards of persons affiliated with Harvard Law School. 1834-" collection, HOLLIS 990094615880203941, in December, 2022.
