The personal contents of the collection reflect Anderson's research and consulting work and his mentoring relationships with his advisees. These include a card index to Anderson's library, a report for the City of Boston, and unofficial inclusions in advisee files. The bulk of the material consists of records of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education which were produced or maintained by Anderson in his official role as an administrator.

Biographical / Historical

Robert Henry Anderson (1918-2010) was a professor of education in the Harvard University Graduate School of Education (1954-1973), Dean of Education at Texas Tech University (1973-1983) and was thereafter associated with the University of South Florida. He as also an educational consultant. His areas of interest included team teaching and nongraded schooling. Anderson's duties at Harvard included supervising in-school teacher training placements (clinical training) of student teachers.

Anderson was born Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 28, 1918. He attended the University of Wisconsin, served in the military during World War II, and earned a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. He was a school administrator in Illinois before beginning his academic career. Anderson died in Tampa, Florida on June 3, 2010.
