Overview
Originally established as the Center for Literary Studies in 1984, the Center was renamed the Center for Literary and Cultural Studies in 1988, and then became the Humanities Center in 1999. It was later renamed the Mahindra Humanities Center in 2011. The Center sponsors seminars, conferences, lectures, and workshops for interdisciplinary studies in the humanities. This collection contains printed materials from 1993 to 2005, including annual reports, brochures, programs, and posters.

Standard size publications include annual reports; brochures about seminars; course catalogs for gender and sexuality studies and cultural studies at Harvard; brochures about Interdisciplinary Initiatives for Graduate Students workshops, fellowships, and conferences; and conference programs. The collection also includes posters from conferences, roundtable discussions, and other events.
Historical note on the Center for Literary and Cultural Studies and the Harvard Humanities Center
The Center for Literary Studies was founded in 1984 with a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. In January 1988, the Center expanded its name to the Center for Literary and Cultural Studies. It changed again in September 1999 to the Humanities Center in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. In March 2011, the Center was renamed as the Mahindra Humanities Center. The Center fosters interdisciplinary studies in the humanities. It hosts seminars, conferences, lectures, and workshops for faculty and students at Harvard and other institutions and independent scholars.
