Ford Foundation, 1955-1967, 1955-1967

Scope of the Ford Foundation Series

Records in this series document PNY's association with the Ford Foundation. They chiefly concern urban renewal. Of special interest in this field are the files related to the Gray Areas urban renewal project and documents concerning his travels to India as an urban consultant. Correspondence and memos concerning the Public Affairs program document the Ford Foundations goals, objectives, and self-evaluation. An interview for a Ford Foundation Oral History Project was conducted while PNY was Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a transcript is included here. The "personal" files include correspondence dealing with confidential or sensitive personal, financial, or personnel matters, including a list of members of the "Coffeehouse Club," an informal group that met to discuss urban affairs.
