Scope and Contents

This series contains Layton's photocopies of reference materials, some with Layton's handwritten annotations, as well as twelve field notebooks, all of which provide insight into her research interests and methods. There is also correspondence mixed in with her research materials and notes. The majority of the materials are in Greek, but also include English, French, German, and Italian, and mostly relate to the history of printing, particularly in 16th century Greece and Italy. Many folders also include Layton's notes, drafts of her writings, and copies of sections from her book, The sixteenth century Greek book in Italy : printers and publishers for the Greek world.
