An act passed in March 1810 by the Massachusetts General Court altered the constitution of the Board of Overseers; among the changes was the relinquishment by the State Senate of the right to sit as members, as well as the addition of fifteen laymen. On February 19, 1812, a bill was passed to repeal the act though this act was not accepted by the University. The 1812 act was repealed by an act passed in February 1814, reinstating the 1810 Act.
