On May 4, 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard at Kent State University shot at students during a mass protest against the bombing of Cambodia by United States military forces. Four students were killed and nine more were wounded. In response, students at M. I. T., Wellesley, Northeastern, Tufts, Brandeis, Lowell Tech, Simmons, UMass, and Harvard voted to boycott classes.
