Scope and Contents
This series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence, including Southern’s communications with members of the Department of Music and Department of Afro-American Studies at Harvard University, and with other Harvard faculty and administration, such as former University President Derek Bok, Professors Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Daniel Bell. Additionally, the series contains correspondence from peers at other universities, inquiries for research assistance from musicology researchers, and requests for subscription and submission information for The Black Perspective in Music journal.
