Immediate Source of Acquisition

Note on verso: "Amsterdam 20 Sept. 1841 Recd from Scriba Classis J. Romeyn Brodhead. Mr. Brodhead was sent out by New York to procure documents to illustrate the early history of the state." The item was donated to Harvard in 1845 by Dr. Thomas DeWitt, a New York Reformed Dutch Church minister, who received the Catalogue from the Classis of Amsterdam where it had been sent by Rev. Henry Selyns in the late1600s. The letter of donation is reprinted in John Langdon Sibley's Notices of the Triennial and Annual Catalogues of Harvard University (Boston, 1865), page 11.
