Papers related to the estate of Mary Holyoke Pearson, 1780-1814
Scope and Contents
This series contains an account book and three receipts related to Eliphalet Pearson's management of the estate of his and Priscilla Pearson's daughter, Mary. Presumably, the infant Mary inherited money upon the 1782 death of her mother Priscilla (who had brought a dowry of $8,000 to her 1780 marriage to Eliphalet), and the death of her grandmother Mary Holyoke (in 1790). The account book ends on December 14, 1813, less than a month before Mary's marriage to Ephraim Abbot, suggesting management of the estate was transferred to Abbot. The receipts, written in late 1813 and early 1814, are for silver items made by Ebenezer Moulton and purchased by Eliphalet Pearson, likely for his daughter's household.
