Scope and content

William Brett worked with Mr. [James?] Keith to promote the design of the College; twelve pounds of Indian corn are to be delivered to an unspecified town. The undated letter also discusses attempts to purchase lands by the Titicut River.

Undated letter. The original letter is accompanied by a typewritten 20th-century transcription with manuscript pencilled annotations.

Historical note

Thomas Prence (1599-1673) served as the fourth, eighth and twelfth governor of Plymouth Colony from 1634 to 1635, from 1638 to 1639, and from 1657 to 1673.

William Brett (1618-1681) served as an elder in the Bridgewater church, representative to the Plymouth General Court, and deputy for Bridgewater from 1661-1676.

James Keith (1643-1719) served as minister in Bridgewater from 1662 until his death in 1719.
