This subseries contains votes of the Harvard Corporation and Board of Overseers, correspondence, financial documents, memoranda, circular letters, and applications for student aid. Topics documented include the laying the cornerstone for University Hall; the Eliot Professorship of Greek Literature, the Smith Professorship of the French and Spanish Languages, and the Alford Professorship of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy and Civil Polity; a Harvard College lottery; the benefits of a Harvard College observatory to the United States navy; instruments for the apparatus; students attending the theater; an investigation into the state of the College; and financial aid.
