Topics documented include construction of a fourth meeting house for the First Parish of Cambridge; an honorary degree for Benjamin Franklin; fines for student infractions; salaries; smallpox; the proposal to found a writing school near Dummer Academy; John Winthrop’s voyage to Newfoundland to observe the Transit of Venus; the proposed Queen’s College in Hampshire County; efforts to rebuild the library and philosophic apparatus lost in the Harvard Hall fire; purchases of instruments for the scientific apparatus; leasing land; the legacy of Daniel Williams and missionaries to the Native Americans; and prostitutes in Charlestown.
