Scope and Contents

Almanac containing sporadic annotations of unidentified measurements to some calendar dates and interleaved pages with short handwritten entries about Winthrop's daily activities, and astronomical and meteorological observations. The entries include personal notes about travel, the weather, and occasional alcohol consumption by Winthrop.

Scientific observations include notes of:
  1. a satellite (January)
  2. sun spots (January 10)
  3. a chart of measurements related to the planets and a satellite (June-July)
  4. the aurora borealis (March 5 and September 21 and 27)
  5. a small earthquake (December 26)
  6. the passing of Jupiter's satellite on March 25, 1739 (noted on the last interleaved page in the volume)
