II. William Bond & Son business records, 1808-1931, undated, 1808-1931

Scope and Contents

This series contains subject files, including advertisements, legal documents, notes, drawings, and trial results of clocks and chronometers; correspondence with colleagues and among the partners in William Bond & Son; and financial records such as invoices, daybooks, and ledgers, dated from 1808 to 1931. As with the family correspondence, letters among William Cranch Bond and his sons often contained both business and personal information. Other correspondents included the United States Navy, for which the company manufactured and repaired chronometers; letters in 1855 pertain to Richard F. Bond's involvement in the United States Coast Survey chronometric expedition to Liverpool, England.
