Iconographie des orchidées du Brésil : dessings originaux
Scope and Contents
One of six unpublished volumes of original paintings of orchids by Rodrigues, 1869-1888. Most illustrations are signed "J. Barbosa Rodrigues, del. d'ap. nat." Illustrations are numbered in pencil and annotated in various hands including A. Cogniaux, F.C. Hoehne, and R.A. Rolfe. The volume is bound in vellum with decorated front and back covers by Livaria J. Leite, Livros Sobre o Brasil, Rio.
The other five volumes are held in Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. The paintings were reproduced in their entirety with historical details, nomenclature, and indexes in "Iconographie des orchidées du Brésil", F. Reinhardt, Basle, 1996. In that book, this volume is referred to as volume 4.

The Archives of the Oakes Ames Orchid Herbarium houses unique resources including personal papers, institutional records, field notes and plant lists, expedition records, photographs, original artwork, and objects from faculty, curators, staff, and affiliates of the Orchid Herbarium.
