Content Description

16 boxes. The collection is contained in 16 boxes. There is a brief list of contents in each box. Box number 13 is a wooden box measuring 36 x 52 x 35 cm. It is originally from Sha fei's wife, Wang Hui (王辉); Boexes 14 to 16 (each 64 x 54 x 3 cm) contain collection of photographs. Each photo was enlarged to 20 inches on a sheet measuring 24 inches. They were taken by Sha fei (沙飞) during the Sino-Japanese War, 1937-1945.

The Sha fei (沙飞) collection contains a mixture of items dating from 1933-2011. The majority are newspapers, magazines, photographs, articles and miscellaneous materials relating to Sha fei. Sha fei's original photographic works, including self-portraits of the honeymoon of Sha fei and Wang Hui (April 1933); "南线战余"(画片6张/套; each 13 x 9.5 cm); "黑白影集"(1936年-1937年) and 鲁迅照片 are included in the collection. The collection also includes correspondence between Wang Yan (王雁), Sha fei's daughter, and others relating to the publication of "沙飞纪念集". A portable hard drive, which contains a video-recordings, still images and documents relating to Sha fe, is also contained in the collection.

Sha fei (沙飞, May 5, 1912 - March 4, 1950), fromerly known as 司徒传, native of Guangdong Kaiping (广东开平), was a photographer who had taken photographs of Lu Xun (鲁迅) including Lu Xun's (鲁迅) funeral service in October of 1936. He became a Communist army photographer during the Anti-Japanese War. He was a founder of "抗敌报" and "晋察冀画报". In March 1950 due to a serious mental illness, he shot a Japanese doctor who was treating him. He was sentenced to death by 华北军区政治部军法处. In 1986, 36 years after his death, he was vindicated by 北京军区军事法院.
