Contains matchbooks and rolling papers, as well as additional paraphernalia related to smoking marijuana and tobacco. Matchbooks, often promoting music and drug retailers as well as restaurants, clubs, and venues, include those from The Outer Limits, Down To Earth, Zed Records, Jack Wade's BandStand, Michael's Pipe Dream, Penny-Owsley Music Company, Elvis Presley's Memphis, MSA Too, Dop Pushers, Music Odyssey Records and Tapes, Old Opera House, Famous Door, Palladium, The Electric Circus, Stone Fox, Sherlock's Montreal, Holmes Electric Protective Company, SHerlock Motel, Baker Street Tobacconist, Hotel Green, Tom Sawyer Motor Inn, Kewpee Hotel Hamburg, Service, Inc. Ticket Agency, Huck Finn Motel, Club Trocadero, Matt Hatter, Sheraton Cadillac Detroit, Watson's, Vicotry at Fallbrook, White Elephant Restaurant, Rip Van Winkle's Thunder Room, Crystalship, The Head Shop, Down the Rabbit Hole, Darien Crafts, Raspberry Roach, Moonshine, The Knit Wit, CHelsea Cat, Budget Tapes and Records, Gas Pipe, Penny Lane, Easy Grow Hydroponics, and others. Further includes rolling papers from such brands as: S.D. Modiano, Jaramago Valadia, Heads Up, Daffodil, Papel de Arroz, Rizla t, 32 Hojitas, Wide Track, Northern Rollers, Freak Brothers, Job Licorice paper, ig Bambu, Joker, Engomado, Zig-Zag, Rose, Alfa Lilac, Rizla t, Watergate, uRol, Sol, Patriotic, Wheat, Head Rice paper, Stella Cannabis, Do Re Mi, Domino, Miquely Costas and Miquel, Zig Zag, Black Sea, One and a Half, Abadie, Northern Rollers, Freak Brothers, High Times, Esterilla Bambu, Hi-Dro, Vogue Strips many different flavors of Alfa, and others. A set of Pin-Up Girls Limited Edition cigarettes as well as an empty package of cigarillos are additional contents of the collection. Two small, empty bottles of Dinky Doo smoke flavoring and two packages of Scentual Oil, likely related to drug usage, are included. Further materials include cases for rolling papers and joints, typically metal and decorated, as well as a small roller kit. Most of these materials date from the latter half of the twentieth century and first years of the twenty-first. Several sets of rolling papers appear to be politically motivated, including Watergate Scandal papers, of which there are two different versions in the collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Ludlow-Santo Domingo Library is the world’s largest private collection of material on altered states of mind. The collection was formed by Julio Mario Santo Domingo Jr. (1957–2009), an investment advisor who resigned his business interests to devote himself to collecting.
