Biographical / Historical
Aurelio de la Vega is a Cuban composer. De la Vega trained in diplomacy in Havana (Cuba), for some time serving as cultural attachè at the Cuban Consulate in Los Angeles. After studying with Ernest Toch (1887-1964) in California from 1947 to 1948, de la Vega gained employment in serveral significant positions in his native Cuba such as: Advisor, Instituto Nacional de Cultura; Dean, Escuela de Música, Universidad de Oriente; Vice-president, Orquesta Filarmónica de La Habana; Director, Music Department at the University of Oriente, Santiago de Cuba; and Music Advisor to the National Institute of Culture. During 1952-1959 de la Vega toured the United States as guest lecturer. De la Vega settled in Los Angeles, California in 1959 where he is a professor and continues to compose and lecture.
