These papers document Don Alfonso's political and personal life following the Spanish Civil War in 1936. The bulk of the collection is correspondence and subject files and there is an extensive 40 year run of Don Alfonso's diaries. The bulk of the collection dates to the mid-19th century and the majorty of records deal with Spanish politics and other global events.

Biographical / Historical

Alfonso de Orléans, Duke of Galliera, was a Spanish military aviator and husband of Princess Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, granddaughter of Queen Victoria of England. He was the son of Infanta Eulalia de Borbón (sister of King Alfonso XIII of Spain) and the Duke of Galliera, Antonio de Orleans. Alfonso De Orléans served in the Air Force as commander and general under King Alfonso XIII and later Francisco Franco.
