Extent
.125 linear feet (1 box)The negatives include portraits of ballerinas, practices, and ballet performances. Two large-format copy negatives are portraits of Eleanor D'Antuono. Three 5"x7" negatives feature Laurie Young. 22 4"x 5" and about 290 120 film negatives are in annotated envelopes. There is only one printed photograph which is a self-portrait of Alfred K. Schroeder taking a photograph with a ballerina using a mirror.
Biographical / Historical
Alfred K. Schroeder was a photographer and Boston historian. He was born in Hof, Germany and immigrated to Boston (Mass) when he was two years old; he lived in Roslindale for the rest of his life. During World War II he enlisted in the Navy, serving as a radarman in the 40th Battalion. He saw action nine times and received a World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
