Biographical / Historical

Anna-Marie Duval-Thibault (1862-1958) was a Franco-American poet and novelist. She was born in Montreal, Canada in 1862, but when she was three years old, her parents emigrated to Troy, New York, then settled in New York City. She attended New York Normal College and later moved to Fall River, Massachusetts where, in 1888 at age 26, she married Onézime Thibault (c1862-1947). Thibault owned the French language newspaper in Fall River, L' Indépendent, which published her collection of poetry, Fleurs du printemps, and also her novel Les deux testaments : esquisse de moeurs Canadiennes, (first published as a serial, later as a volume), and other writings. They eventually had eight children, though only three lived to majority. In 1915 the family moved to San Diego, California. She died there at age 96 in 1958.
