Autograph manuscript notebook album of poems written from 1870-1880 by Sarah Orne Jewett. Notebook includes a few notes by Jewett's nephew, Dr. Theodore Jewett Eastman. Collection also includes an autograph album kept by Sarah Orne Jewett's sister, Caroline Augusta Jewett Eastman. Album includes signatures of friends and family dated 1873-1876.

Biographical / Historical

Sarah Orne Jewett (1849-1909) was an American author born in South Berwick, Maine, the daughter of Theodore Herman Jewett (1815-1878), a doctor, and Caroline Frances Perry Jewett (1820-1891). Her siblings were: Mary Rice Jewett (1847-1930); and Caroline Augusta Jewett Eastman (1855-1897) who married Edwin Calvin Eastman (1849-1892). Their son, and Sarah's nephew, was Dr. Theodore Jewett Eastman (1879-1931).
