Extent
.75 linear feet (3 boxes)Ceramic tiles were produced in Stoke-on-Trent, England by Campbell Brick & Tile Co. and also by Minton's China Works. One tile has no maker stamped on verso, two tiles stamped with initials IMS on recto. All tiles are 15.2 x 15.2 centimeters [6 inch square] and are tan colored earthenware with brown or black decoration. Some tiles are in wooden frames. Tiles are from a series designed in 1875 by John Moyr Smith (1839-1912), an artist and designer born in Glasgow, who worked in the Arts and Crafts tradition, with designs depicting scenes from William Shakespeare's plays. They remained in production until late 20th century.

Minton's China Works and Campbell Brick & Tile Co. were two of many branding names used over the years by the Minton Tile Companies of Stoke-on-Trent, England. The original company founded circa 1828, went through multiple court battles and numerous corporate name changes in the 19th- and 20th-centuries.
