Confirmation of papal privileges chiefly to the diocese of Macerata, the commune and church of Recanati, dated at Avignon, 1338 and at Rome, 1367-1797. Collection also contains miscellaneous briefs and indulgences for the Church of Santa Maria alla Scala in Milan, the towns of Fabriano and Loreto, the archdiocese of Venice, and an autograph (?) letter in Italian by Innocent VIII, dated 1491. One folder contains printed facsimile charters presented as an 1884 prospectus for Chartarum pontificum romanorum specimina selecta, edited by Julius von Pflugk-Harttung, published 1885-1887.

Possibly from the collection of the Marchese Litta; formerly owned by J. J. Jarvis.

From a note accompanying the material: Papal Palaeography -- This collection of documents, one for each Pope from Benedict XII to Pius IX, belonged formerly to Litta, the Italian antiquary, and was bought by Prof. C. E. Norton for the Library at an auction in Boston in 1884.
