5 linear feet (5 boxes)All materials concern the life and work of Phillips Brooks, assembled for a future biography by Judith English. Includes correspondence (1952-1957), transcripts of some Brooks letters to others, portrait photographs of Brooks, research notes and index cards made by English, and printed materials. Also includes a scrapbook of clippings on Brooks, assembled by Lewis Hammond and borrowed by English.
Biographical / Historical
Phillips Brooks (1835-1895) was a Harvard College graduate (AB 1855), an Episcopal clergyman, rector of Trinity Church, Boston (1868-1893), and bishop of Massachusetts (1891-1893). Judith Kelly English lived in Beverly, Massachusetts ca. 1950s and was researching Brooks's life for an eventual biography.
