Arrangement

This group of Longfellow letters has a confusing arrangement. The finding aid is organized chronologically (with some letters to Ferdinand Freiligrath and his family grouped together at the end), but the actual papers are housed alphabebetically by last name of recipient of letter. Readers should request letters on call-slips by box number AND by recipient's last name. Item numbers can also be included if known.

Box arrangement is by last name of recipient as follows:
  1. Box 1: A-Carnus
  2. Box 2: Chamberlain - Everett
  3. Box 3: Fales - Folsom
  4. Box 4: Forester - Livermore (excluding George W. Greene)
  5. Box 5: Greene, George W.
  6. Box 6: Longfellow, Alexander - Longfellow, Samuel
  7. Box 7: Longfellow, Setphen - Longfellow, Zilpha
  8. Box 8: Longworth - Pierce, Anne
  9. Box 9: Pierce, George - Sturgis
  10. Box 10: Sumner, Charles
  11. Box 11: Sumner, Harriet - Woolson
  12. Box 12: Letters from Longfellow to unidentified recipients
  13. Box 13: Letters from Longfellow to unidentified recipients
  14. Box 14: Craigie House deposit
Please note that several item numbers were inadvertently skipped in this finding aid. Numbering will not always be sequential.
