.3 linear feet (1 box)Collection of over 150 photographs of Beatrix Potter, her family and friends. Collection consists of mainly albumen and silver prints, postcards, and cartes-de-visite. Most photographs captioned and dated by family members on verso; many photographs were taken by Beatrix Potter's father, Rupert Potter. Photographs include images of Beatrix Potter from childhood to her late years, with family, her dog, and her friends. Collection also includes group photographs of the Potter family, interiors of their houses, scenery and landscapes.
Biographical / Historical
Beatrix Potter was an author of children's books, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist. She was born into a wealthy Manchester family of Rupert Potter and Helen Leech Potter, she had one brother Walter Bertram. Both of her parents were artistically talented and encouraged their children; her father was an amateur photographer. Beatrix Porter spent a lot of time in Scotland and, later in life she settled in the Lake district, where she passed away in 1943.
