Most are studies of birds done at the London Zoo or the British Museum. A drawing on f. 16r may be related to "Ensign Rollynge's Christmas in the Jungle," which appeared in London Society, Vol. XX (1872). Two drawings of storks appear to be related to Some of Aesop's Fables with Modern Instances (1883), p. 41 (ff. 48v and 51v). Additional drawings of swans are possibly related to the decorative panels for the dining room of Bank Hall. Chapel-en-le-Frith.
