General note

The following letters, a number of which are translations from the Russian by Lev Trotsky's secretaries, often contain A.MS. revisions and annotations by Lev Trotsky, as well as secretarial annotations. Several letters, although signed by a secretary, were written by Trotsky and are therefore included in this section. Readers should also consult Letters by Lev Trotsky's Secretaries; much of the secretarial correspondence was written on Lev Trotsky's instruction and supplements material in this section. Unless otherwise noted, all typed letters in this section are carbon copies.
