Scope and Contents

Contains descriptions of plants, and locations where Manasseh Cutler observed them, from 1782 to 1784. Page 32 contains an index to plants described. Entries, which are numbered 1-20, and 304-332, include "scunk-weed" or "skunk-cabbage," probably referring to Lysichiton americanus; Solomon's seal (Polygonatum); Silver-rod (Solidago bicolor); Roman wormwood (Artemisia pontica or Ambrosia artemisiifolia); and unicorn root (Aletris farinosa).

Book II, 1783 Digital

Scope and Contents

Contains an alphabetical "Catalogue of Plants from Doctors Linnous [sic] and Hill," referring to Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) and Sir John Hill (1714?-1775), as well as Manasseh Cutler's descriptions of plants in 1783, numbered 100-140, including Indian cucumber (Medeola), pigeon berry (possibly Rivina humilis), and yellow water lily (Nuphar lutea). There is an index to plants described in the front of the volume.

Scope and Contents

Contains descriptions of plants, and locations where Manasseh Cutler found them in 1783-1784, numbered 330, and numbers 141-216. There is an index to plants described in the front of the volume. Entries include observations on nightshade (Solanum dulcamara), wild angelica (Angelica sylvestris), water plantain (Alisma), watercress (Nasturtium officinale), and St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum).

Contains descriptions of plants, and locations where Manasseh Cutler found them in 1784-1785, unnumbered. There is an index to plants described in the front of the volume. Entries include bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis), arrowgrass (Triglochin maritima), Jacob's ladder (Polemonium caeruleum), poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans).

Book VII, 1786-1789 Digital

Scope and Contents

Contains descriptions of plants, and locations where Manasseh Cutler found them, "in part for the years" 1786-1789. Entries are unnumbered and include of species of Holosteum (pages 17-20) and Solidago (pages 40-43), as well as Caltha palustris (page 80), Ranunculus acris (page 92), and black wild cherry (Prunus serotina, page 105).

Scope and Contents

Contains unnumbered descriptions of plants, and where Manasseh Cutler found them, in 1789, including the genera Liquidambar (page 1), Vaccinium (pages 20, 44-45, 123), and Lathyrus (pages 50-51), as well as Berberis vulgaris (pages 55-56), and Poa trivialis and Poa pratensis (page 48).

Contains unnumbered descriptions of plants, and locations where Manasseh Cutler found them, from 1796 to 1799, including Hydrocotyle umbellata (page 1), Solidago altissima (page 4), and several species of Amaranthus, or Amaranth (pages 47-51), Capraria (pages 56-59, 101-102), and Viburnum (pages 106-112).
