Wedgwood medallion of Carl Linnaeus, circa 1850s Digital

Scope and Contents

Wedgwood produced a number of procelain medallions of Carl Linnaeus by Swedish sculptor Inlader beginning about 1780. This daguerreotype depicts one of those medallions.

Attached note in Jane Gray's hand: "Two daguerreotypes taken in Paris for Dr. Asa Gray in 1851. He asked M. Adrien de Jussieu and M. Michaux to sit for him. Michaux was then I think 84 and walked to Verrieres to breakfast at M. Vilmorin to meet Dr. Gray."
