Studio portraits of chiefly French literary figures by commercial photographer G.L. Manuel Freres. Notable authors include Tristan Bernard, Jean Cocteau, Paul Fort, Sacha Guitry, Gerard d'Houville, Francis Jammes, Charles Maurras, Paul Morand, Marcel Pagnol, Marcel Prevost, Rachilde, Henri de Regnier, and Paul Val. Many were members of the Academie francaise. Other figures include Louis Barthou, prime minister of France in 1913; Cardinal Alfred Baudrillart; painter Paul-Albert Besnard; publisher Edouard Champion; Georges Clemenceau, statesman and twice prime minister; Marshal of France Ferdinand Foch, allied supreme commander in World War I; singer and actress Yvette Guilbert; General Hubert Lyautey; linguist Antoine Meillet; Vicomtesse Marie-Laure de Noailles; and Raymond Poincar president of France from 1913 to 1920. The photographs are inscribed by the subjects in "homage" to Harvard University.
