Scope and Contents

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from McGeorge Bundy, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University to Robert Woods Bliss and Mildred Bliss informs them of a unanimous recommendation for the appointment of the first research fellow in Landscape Architecture, Ralph E. Griswold. He offers Griswold's professional background. He tells them that Griswold wrote a letter to Mr. Rapuano on July 4, 1956 expressing his willingness to be considered for the appointment. A copy of the letter was included in the correspondence, but it no longer with this correspondence. The letter indicated Griswold would not be able to begin full time work as the Dumbarton Oaks fellow until the Spring of 1957 due to previous obligations in Athens. Rapuano's recommendaton is that the appointment run for a year from April 1, 1957-Spril 1, 1958.
