The Edward Lowenstein papers, 1967-2002 (inclusive), are the product of Lowenstein’s activities as Chief of the Cardiac Anesthesia Group and a member of the Department of Anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and as Anesthetist-in-Chief at Beth Israel Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (now Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), Boston, Massachusetts. The papers include Lowenstein’s professional correspondence while working at Massachusetts General Hospital, his outgoing correspondence from Beth Israel Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and records generated as a product of his involvement in the merger of Beth Israel Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital.

The Edward Lowenstein papers consist of two series: I. Correspondence and II. Beth Israel Hospital Records.
