Scope and Contents

Consists of correspondence, handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, memoranda, reports, grant records, and awards that are the product of Good's professional career. Records from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, date to Good's later years with the University (1960-1972), during which time Good was Professor of Microbiology (1962-1972) and Regent’s Professor of Pediatrics and Microbiology (1969-1972). Records regarding Good’s acceptance of the Albert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Award (1970) include letters of congratulation. Records dating from 1973 to 1981 focus on Good’s time at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, New York, where he served as President and Director, and consist of administrative reports, notes from Grand Rounds, and copies of grants received from the March of Dimes and the National Institutes of Health for research in immunobiology, nutrition, and aging. After leaving the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, Good was briefly employed by the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, Oklahoma City (1982-1985) before moving to the University of South Florida and All Children’s Hospital, Saint Petersburg, where he served as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and Physician-in-Chief (1985-2003). These records consist of administrative reports, University newsletters, newspaper clippings, and awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from The International Society of Experimental Hematology, The John Howland Award, and The Sacred Treasure Gold and Silver Medal. Series also contains records from Good’s involvement in professional organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the Royal Society of Medicine, the latter two of which awarded him Fellow status. A small portion of the last four boxes of this series include letters of condolence sent after Good's death and records related to the establishment of the Robert A. Good Symposium and Library at Harvard Medical School.

Please note that the abbreviation "RAG" has been used for "Robert A. Good" on folder titles. Additionally, many of the awards and certificates found in this series are photocopies of originals retained by Good's family.
