Series I. Professional Correspondence, 1950-2006., 1950-2006.

Scope and Contents

Consists of correspondence, printed email, recommendations and nominations, records of professional organizations, manuscript reviews, writings, and notes. The bulk of the series is the product of the administrative activities of Robert A. Good in positions at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, New York, the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida and All Children’s Hospital, Saint Petersburg, Florida. Additional topics addressed in the correspondence include: public and professional responses to Good’s thymus gland research at the University of Minnesota and discussions of that research with colleagues; his receiving the Howland Award; job negotiations in anticipation of his departure from Sloan-Kettering; consultations, including those with patients regarding bone marrow transplantation; leukemia treatment; Sloan-Kettering research and fundraising; and correspondence with United States Senators and Representatives regarding funding for scientific research. Correspondents in the series include Lewis Thomas (1913-1993), Hans D. Ochs (1936-), Thomas E. Starzl (1926-), and United States Representative C.W. Bill Young. A limited amount of personal correspondence is also included, as well as tributes and letters of condolence addressed to his wife, Dr. Noorbibi K. Day-Good upon his death in 2003. Please note that the abbreviation "RAG" has been used for "Robert A. Good" on folder titles.
