Scope and Contents

Series V consists of records from special projects undertaken by staff and others to meet specific requirements or goals. Records include staff lists, manuscripts, transcripts, and printed matter related to the history of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Includes records related to the Surgical Dressings Committee, including a bound volume, assembled by Harvey Cushing, MD, of his receipts, correspondence, plans, invitations, and speeches related to his effort to memorialize the service of the New England Surgical Dressings Committee with a bronze plaque installed at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. The plaque reads: “To commemorate the pioneer work of the Surgical Dressings Committee. Through their labors, which centered in this building October 1915 to June 1918, eighteen million dressings made by six thousand women throughout New England were assembled, sterilized, sealed in tins, and shipped to Europe for the wounded of the allied armies.” The Surgical Dressings Committee records also include a photograph of volunteer workers for the committee, and some provenance information about the volume.
