IV. Nuclear War Files, 1962, 1963, 1980-1990., 1962, 1963, 1980-1990.

Scope and Contents

Consists of correspondence, minutes, meeting notes, data, lectures, reports, articles and monographs created or compiled by Leaf due to his interest in promoting public health and preventive medicine through nuclear disarmament. Pursuing this interest led to Leaf’s membership on several World Health Organization Committees on nuclear war, including the World Health Organization International Committee of Experts in Medical Sciences and Public Health to implement Resolution WHA 34.38, the Committee to Implement WHA 36.28, and the World Health Organization Management Group, which continued the work of the earlier committees. This series also consists of records on the research, development and implementation of coursework on aspects of nuclear war, including some courses developed for Harvard Medical School. Lectures presented by Leaf are in draft and final form. The bulk of the series includes reference items in support of Leaf’s research and activities on this topic. Few records contain copies of Leaf’s publications on this topic. Subjects include the effects of nuclear war on health and health services, casualty estimates and management, public health, incendiary effects of nuclear weapons, climate effects and food supply problems, role of physicians and health workers in the preservation and promotion of peace for the promotion of health.
