VII. Writings, 1954-2004, 1954-2004

Scope and Contents

Series VII includes RJK’s writings on acetylcholinesterases, neuromuscular transmission and blocking agents, anesthesia patient safety, and the technology and history of anesthesia. This series contains research notes, correspondence, and photographs documenting the publication of RJK and Edward Lowenstein’s article, The Henry Isaiah Dorr Professorship at Harvard University: The World’s Oldest Endowed Chair in Anesthesia; and RJK’s draft of his memoirs of his tenure at MGH, No Problems, Only Opportunities: The Kitz Era 1969 to 1999, in Reminiscences of the Department of Anesthesia at the Massachusetts General Hospital, A History. Correspondence on the publishing of Clinical Procedures of the Massachusetts General Hospital, a procedural for anesthesiology training, is located in Series IV and VII. Publisher correspondence related to works in which RJK provided consultation and edited during his tenure at MGH appears in Series V and VII. Also includes Careers in Anesthesiology: Autobiographical Memoirs, Volume VIII, a collection of autobiographical chapters written by anesthesiologists discussing their career experiences in anesthesiology. RJK contributed a chapter titled On the Maturation of the Profession.

Conditions Governing Access

Collection is open for research. Access requires advance notice. There are restrictions on access to portions of this collection. Access to Harvard University records is restricted for 50 years from the date of creation. These restrictions are noted where they appear in Series III. Access to personal and patient information is restricted for 80 years from the date of creation. These restrictions are noted where they appear in Series I, III, and IV.
